Introduction To 303 SS Round Bars

303 Stainless Steel Round Bars, also known as AISI 303, EN 1.4305, and UNS S30300, are austenitic, free-machining stainless steels designed for applications requiring excellent machinability. With a composition that includes 18% chromium, 8% nickel, and sulfur, this grade offers superior machinability compared to other stainless steel grades, making it ideal for high-speed machining processes.

While 303 stainless steel provides good corrosion resistance in mildly corrosive environments, it is not suitable for marine or coastal environments due to reduced resistance caused by the sulfur content. The alloy is non-magnetic but can become slightly magnetic after cold working or welding. Despite its high machinability, 303 stainless steel’s corrosion resistance is lower than that of 304 grade due to the sulfur addition. These bars offer an excellent balance of strength, machinability, and corrosion resistance, making them the material of choice for precision components and high-volume manufacturing.
