HOMEMaterials NitinolNitinol Grade 5 Wire

Sachin Steel Product Banner_17 Sept_008

The Nitinol grade family (Grades 1-9) of Nickel-Titanium (NiTi) shape-memory alloy wire from the Fort Wayne Metals family has been developed with an austenite finish transformation temperature high enough for use as a thermal actuator, which is a component that remains inactive at room or body temperature but changes shape when the temperature goes above a specified point. This is in contrast to more commonly referred to Nitinol #1 (general medical/guidewire) and superelastic, room-temperature grades. Grade 5 is not a chemistry exception and meets or exceeds ASTM F2063 purity requirements, except for Grades 2 and 3, which are chromium- and cobalt-doped, respectively. Sachin Steel is the manufacturer and supplier of Nitro Grade 5 wire and other grade wires in different parts of the world.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nitinol Grade 5 Wire is a nickel-titanium shape memory alloy wire designed for high-temperature actuation and controlled shape recovery.

It is used for thermal actuators, deployable mechanisms, aerospace systems, robotics, and temperature-controlled devices.

Grade 5 Nitinol is designed for higher transformation temperatures, while standard Nitinol grades are commonly designed for superelastic or lower-temperature shape memory applications.

It uses a reversible phase transformation that allows the wire to recover its preset shape when heated above its transformation temperature.

Yes, it is specifically designed for applications requiring shape memory activation at elevated temperatures.

Yes, its transformation temperature can be tailored through composition, processing, and heat treatment to meet specific application requirements.
