Beryllium Copper Sheet

Beryllium copper sheet is an alloy that has been selected for applications where a component must be capable of multiple spring returns and remain conductive. It starts life soft enough to stamp, then a short low temperature bake turns it into something close to spring steel, while it stays non magnetic and does not throw sparks. C17200 is the grade most buyers ask for, supplied to ASTM B194. The production of beryllium copper sheet is carried out at Sachin Steel Centre in Mumbai, with a mill test certificate issued for each lot.

This page covers the alloy itself: grades, composition, tempers, properties, and heat treatment. For the individual forms, see our beryllium copper products range.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between C17200 and C17500 beryllium copper sheets?

C17200 beryllium copper sheet offers higher strength, while C17500 sheet provides higher electrical and thermal conductivity. Both are precipitation-hardened copper alloys.

What is the difference between Alloy 25, CuBe2, and C17200?

Alloy 25 sheet, CuBe2 sheet, and UNS C17200 sheet identify the same high-strength beryllium copper alloy using different commercial, chemical, and designation systems.

What is the difference between annealed and age-hardened beryllium copper sheet?

Annealed beryllium copper sheet is softer and easier to form. Age-hardened C17200 beryllium copper sheet provides higher strength after controlled heat treatment.

Can beryllium copper sheet be formed before it is hardened?

Yes. C17200 beryllium copper sheet is commonly formed in the annealed condition before age hardening. This provides better formability before achieving higher strength.

Is beryllium copper sheet magnetic or sparking?

Beryllium copper sheet is non-magnetic and commonly used as a non-sparking copper sheet for selected tools and components where spark generation must be minimised.

Which ASTM standard covers beryllium copper sheet?

ASTM B194 covers wrought copper-beryllium alloy plate, sheet, strip, and discs. ASTM B194 beryllium copper sheet includes grades such as C17200.

Is beryllium copper sheet safe to handle and machine?

Solid BeCu sheet is generally suitable for normal handling. Machining, grinding, welding, and heating require dust or fume controls because beryllium exposure can be hazardous.

What thicknesses and sizes are available, and can it be cut to size?

Beryllium copper sheet is available in various thicknesses and dimensions. A beryllium copper sheet manufacturer, supplier, stockist, or exporter can provide cut-to-size material.
