Nitinol Superelastic Wire Manufacturer and Supplier in India

HOME → Nitinol Products → Nitinol Wires → Nitinol Superelastic Wire

Nitinol Superelastic Wire is a nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy wire which has a notable characteristic of bending significantly when it is loaded and will recover its shape when the load is removed, without the need for application of heat, provided that it is used above its Af temperature. When stressed, the wire changes to stress induced martensite, and reverts to austenite upon unloading, up to about 8% recoverable. It is flexible, strong against fatigue and easily recovers its shape, making it suitable for use in medical applications, for guidewires, actuators, sensors, robotics and precision engineering. It is provided with a controlled nickel content, set diameters and surface conditions. Sachin Steel Centre is a manufacturer, supplier of Nitinol Superelastic Wire of various sizes and material certifications for the Engineering, Medical, Research, Industrial markets in India and export countries.

Frequently Asked Questions

Nitinol Superelastic Wire is a nickel-titanium wire that can undergo large deformation and return to its original shape when the applied load is removed.

It works through a reversible stress-induced phase transformation from austenite to martensite during loading and back to austenite when the load is removed.

Nitinol Superelastic Wire can typically recover up to about 8% strain, depending on its composition, processing, and operating conditions.

The Af temperature is the temperature at which Nitinol completes its transformation to austenite. Superelastic wire normally operates above its Af temperature.

Yes, it can be customized by wire diameter, length, surface finish, transformation temperature, and mechanical properties according to application requirements.

Superelastic wire springs back when the load is removed and needs no heat. Shape memory wire needs heat to recover. See our Nitinol Shape Memory Wire page.

Bend strain is wire diameter divided by (2 x bend radius + diameter). For about 4% strain, the minimum bend radius is 12 times the wire diameter, so a 0.5 mm wire needs a 6 mm radius.

Pick an Af below the lowest temperature the wire will see. A lower Af gives a higher plateau stress at a given temperature.
