Stainless Steel 316 ERW Pipe

Stainless Steel 316 ERW Pipes or SS 316 ERW pipes are the type of pipes that are made by welding stainless steel grade 316 strip where the 304 grade strip lacks resistance to chloride and acid environment. Chromium content in the alloy is 16-18 percent while nickel content is 10-14 percent. In chloride rich and marine environments, the addition of molybdenum provides grade 316 a much greater resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion than 304 stainless steel. ASTM A312 / ASME SA312 is a specification that includes welded and seamless TP316 and TP316L pipe. As there is no mention of ERW in ASTM A312, we provide this pipe in the welded condition as ASTM A312 TP316 or ASTM A312 TP316L. Sizes are according to ASME B36.19M NPS and SCHEDULE. Sachin Steel Centre is one of the trusted Stainless Steel 316 ERW Pipes Manufacturers and Suppliers in India for providing complete material traceability to the Industrial Buyers in India and global customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stainless Steel 316 ERW Pipe is a welded austenitic stainless steel pipe containing chromium, nickel and molybdenum for improved corrosion resistance.

SS 316 ERW Pipe is used in chemical processing, marine equipment, pharmaceutical plants, food processing and water treatment systems.

SS 316 ERW pipes are made by welding formed stainless steel strips, while seamless pipes are manufactured without a welded seam.

ASTM A312 covers welded and seamless austenitic stainless steel pipes, including TP316 and TP316L grades.

Yes, SS 316 ERW Pipe offers good corrosion resistance, especially against many chemicals and chloride environments, due to its molybdenum content. However, it is not immune to corrosion in all conditions.

SS 316L has a lower carbon content than SS 316, which helps reduce the risk of sensitization and intergranular corrosion after welding.

No. A312 covers seamless and straight seam welded pipe and does not name the welding process. We supply SS 316 ERW pipe as ASTM A312 TP316 or TP316L, welded. ASTM A358 covers fusion welded pipe made with filler metal.
