Nitinol Shape Memory Wire is a nickel-titanium (NiTi) alloy wire which can recover to a set shape, or can be made to contract against a load when heated. The wire is in a lower temperature martensite state and can be bent into a desired shape. It changes back to austenite when heated within its transformation temperature range and restarts to return to its programmed shape, creating recovery force if held back of course. The austenite finish (Af) temperature is the temperature at which complete shape recovery is achieved and is therefore the first temperature to look at when choosing a wire. The wire is made from ASTM F2063 Nitinol, and is available in custom diameters and lengths. Sachin Steel Centre is capable of manufacturing and supplying Nitinol Shape Memory Wire as per your requirements which is provided with the material test certificate for industrial and research applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

A Nitinol Shape Memory Wire is a nickel-titanium alloy wire that can recover its programmed shape when heated through its transformation temperature range.

When heated, the wire transforms from martensite to austenite and returns toward its previously programmed shape.

The shape memory effect is the ability of Nitinol wire to recover its original programmed shape after deformation when heated.

Shape memory wire requires heating for shape recovery, while superelastic Nitinol wire recovers its shape when the applied load is removed.

Yes, shape memory wire generally requires heating above its transformation temperature to recover its programmed shape.

Use hot water or air, or pass an electric current through it. Use the resistance per metre table to size the supply.

Pick an Af above the highest temperature at which the wire must stay soft and below the temperature your heater reaches.

No. A one way wire needs a load or a bias spring to stretch it again when it cools.
