Stainless Steel ERW Pipes (1)

Stainless Steel ERW Pipes are ERW (electric resistance welded) pipes manufactured by welding the edges of stainless steel strips together with electric resistance welding without using the filler metal, in order to form a continuous round pipe. These welded pipes can be found in various grades such as SS 304 ERW Pipes, SS 304L, Stainless Steel 316 ERW Pipe, and SS 316L, which are known to be highly resistant to corrosion and have uniform wall thickness. These pipes are relatively cheaper than seamless pipes. ASTM A312 / ASME SA312 applies to seamless and longitudinally welded austenitic stainless steel pipe. This product is not actually called ERW, but we sell this product as ASTM A312 welded. The dimensions are standardized by ASME B36.19M. SS ERW pipes have been utilized broadly in the chemical handling, water treatment, food handling, building services and standard engineering. Sachin Steel Centre is an important company for the supply of Stainless Steel ERW Pipes to industrial buyers in Mumbai as well as abroad in India.

Frequently Asked Questions

Stainless steel ERW pipes are manufactured from stainless steel strip formed into a round shape and joined by a longitudinal resistance weld without filler metal, normally supplied to ASTM A312 as welded pipe.

Seamless pipe is formed from a pierced solid billet and has no weld seam; ERW pipe is formed from strip and welded along a longitudinal seam. ASTM A312 covers both types, so specify whether you require welded or seamless on your enquiry.

ASTM A312 covers seamless and straight-seam welded austenitic pipe. It does not explicitly use the term ERW, so specify “ASTM A312 welded”. ASTM A358 covers fusion-welded pipe made with filler metal.

Pipe is sized by Nominal Pipe Size (NPS) and schedule per ASTM A312; tube is sized by actual outside diameter (OD) and wall thickness per ASTM A269, A249, or A554 for heat-exchanger, mechanical, and structural applications.

Allowable pressure depends on the grade, operating temperature, wall thickness, weld joint quality factor, and piping design code. For critical or cyclic high-pressure service, seamless pipe is usually specified. Send us your design conditions for advice.

Choose seamless pipe for high-pressure, thermal-cyclic, or critical service where a weld seam is a design concern. ERW pipe is well suited for general process, food, water, and building services at moderate pressures.
